This is a lovely soft shiny Gabeh rug from Northern Afghanistan. Gabeh are less intricate, have heavier knots and plainer colours generally, but are very contemporary looking and work well in modern surroundings.
The ‘nap’ of the rug (the way the piled wool is cut and lays) means from one side it is a lovely light golden colour and from the other end the reds are more visible as the rug is darker from the opposite end (as per photo). It depends on the light in your room as to which way round you would lay it.
All our rugs and kilims are handmade in the Northern Provinces of Afghanistan and are made with 100% sheeps wool and 100% natural vegetable dyes. They are all Fair Trade and you can read more about our Fair Trade license on the above tabs.
